I love the idea of writing and taking notes as a second brain! We don’t need technology to store our ideas.

The technology being developed to manipulate our memory to treat Alzheimer’s, ptsd, addiction, etc. fascinates me. What are your thoughts on the ethical pitfalls this will create?

A notebook is also a great second brain. I love to write down notes on paper too :)

That's a fascinating topic! Although storing ideas in a second brain helps retrieving important information it will not be enough to prevent these diseases. I think the main ethical pitfalls are regarding data and memories. First, patients would need to consent personal data that can be pretty sensitive for them. Second, we are our memories. So manipulating them will be problematic.

If you're interested, Elizabeth Loftus made extensive research on how little manipulations can even create a false memory. Here's an excellent TED talk by her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB2OegI6wvI

This is a fascinating topic because it is expected that the number of people diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimer and other neurodegenerative diseases) will increase year by year.

Super interesting comment! Thanks for sharing :)

I would love to read your opinion about this topic :)

Thanks for the TED talk link! I just watched it and she's terrific. I have read so many heartbreaking cases like the one she leads with about false memory convicting innocent people. I have done a small amount of research on the topic but just dipped my toes in. While I was writing about memory the Neurolink story came out and made me realize the future of memory research and application is powerful and terrifying. I research various topics for a podcast and here's my take on memory if you're interested. https://www.jordanharbinger.com/memory-skeptical-sunday/
